What is Local Story?

Local Story gives a snapshot from Wakefield communities to the response of the Coronavirus Pandemic and explores ideas for a greener future

Local Story started in March 2020 just as the UK went into Lockdown and has been gathering stories and insight into Wakefield’s response to the crisis.

An interactive map of the District captures the effort of some organisations and groups who have actively responded to community need. Positive stories of resilience in how people are dealing with the challenges they have had to face include coordinated community action, people learning new skills and new finding new ways of working.

Local Story is exploring ideas for how local communities and people can address important issues around climate change, encouraging a greener more environmentally friendly way of life, and how the environment can help peoples physical and mental health.

Local Story is developed and run by arts organisation One to One Development Trust as the Director of Public Health Anna Hartley Annual Report 2020.

We would like to thank all the participants and organisations who have shared their stories and contributed to this important archive of Wakefield District during Covid-19.
