Ackworth Rocks Covid Snake

I started Ackworth Rocks Facebook group over two years ago where children in the village had to paint and hide rocks, then once found post a picture on the group.

Face Masks

I was making ‘oilcloth’ peg bags and covers for the control panels on mobility scooters and selling them on eBay. This had to stop when the pandemic hit, due to me not being able to go to the post office.

Pontefract Murals

I decided to start painting pictures on businesses throughout Pontefract as a way to say thank you to NHS workers for saving lives.

Stop the Stigma

I am a poet, painter and activist trying to stop the stigma of mental health. It’s been tough during Lockdown as I live on my own and am struggling with isolation.

Scarecrow Salute to our Heroes

Sandal Community Association started the locally infamous ‘Sandal Scarecrow Festival’ back in 2014. For the next five years, the creativity of Sandal residents has been celebrated with a weekend of fun for all the family.

Colliers Court Scarecrow Festival

On the 15th of May 2020, I had an idea, and posted on a Facebook page about creating a scarecrow festival, which created 30+ responses! Every year, as a family we visit annual scarecrow festivals, and have done from being a small child. Disappointed that due to lockdown, we were not able to visit these events. I asked the town of Featherstone to create one!

VE Rainbow Window

We’d heard about the ‘Tommy in the Window’ campaign so thought we would create one too but with a stained-glass rainbow effect … to sort of fit in with this time.

On the Front Line

As a nurse on a Covid Palliative Care Ward I’ve been very anxious about bringing my nurses uniform home. I saw a post on a Covid nurses Facebook group, and it was someone making uniform bags. A friend of mine had been wanting to help the nurses and I suggested this idea. Within a few days there was a small army of about 4 ladies who began making bags and dropping them on my gate post for me to take into work and distribute to staff.

Importance of Online Groups

There is plenty of research to show that creativity is good for you, and in times like these we need to keep our wellbeing front and centre more than ever.

On The Wall

I’m in lockdown with my 84 year old mum who had a stroke 5 weeks ago (she’s doing brilliant), she’s living in her little spare room looking out at her 97year old neighbours blank pebbledash garage, so I decided, as artists do, I’d like to paint a mural on that wall to remember our time here together in isolation.
