Reusable Coffee Cups
There are many reasons to ditch single use coffee cups and invest in a re-usable alternative. Most takeaway coffee cups have a thin plastic lining on the inside, making them difficult to recycle.
Some of the large chain Coffee houses have started initiatives to recycle their cups; but this must be done at specified destinations- meaning they largely have not gained much traction and most people just bin their cups. This is adding to waste in landfill sites, having a detrimental effect on the environment. Re-usable cups come in all shapes and sizes and the benefits of owning one are vast. Firstly, you are not contributing to landfill waste. If you commute to work and get a coffee every day, that’s 300+ single use cups that you have stopped binning a year! Some coffee shops will even give a discount for using your own cup or one of their re-usable eco alternatives. Secondly, single-use cups are usually made from virgin tree-fibre, so you will be saving young trees.
Most re-usable cups will last an exceedingly long time- if cared for properly and you can even buy ones made from recycled materials such as bamboo! Why not make the swap?
