St. Catherine’s are continuing to run a delivery only Food Bank throughout the local area.
We offer a shopping and prescription service, telephone befriending as well as delivering Puzzle Packs to the elderly in the area to keep their minds active during the Lockdown period. We now offer a nourishment café hot meal delivery service, which is available for delivery upon placing orders.
I am most proud of the fact that we have kept going and delivered a valuable service! The first three weeks were the hardest, we had to set up as best we could and see how everything would work out, we got there and worked things out along the way.
We knew what help people needed, that we could respond to, as we already had contact with people through running the elderly day service. However, we expanded our reach using feedback forms; asking how we could be of assistance. Our telephone befriending conversations are also scripted and at the end, we ask if there is anything else that we can do to help people.
We intend to build on what we have learnt during the pandemic by moving forward. We won’t resume some of the services that we used to offer, as we have learnt that the delivery is service is much more efficient. We are looking into how we can deliver some kind of mental health service for elderly people.
