Young Lives Consortium

Young Lives Consortium (YLC) is a membership organisation of Voluntary Sector Organisations working with children, young people and families throughout the Wakefield District.

In response to Covid-19 we have worked closely with One to One Development Trust, Wakefield Council and Public Health and Wakefield CCG to create a new online resource for children and young people living in the Wakefield District.

WF-I-Can is a platform giving information, advice and activities as well as live support through an online chat system. Children and Young people aged 8- 19 can chat with Support Workers weekdays 1-5pm and 7-9pm.

Young Lives are most proud of the dedication and motivation of local organisations and members of Wakefield Council etc to help bring this invaluable resource to fruition. The website was co-produced by children and young people throughout every stage, showing commitment to creating a service that will have a lasting impact.

During ongoing participation work, children and young people highlighted the need for a safe space where they can access support and activities to improve their wellbeing, along with the need to improve the visibility of local services that are available for children and young people.

Support for children, young people and families throughout the District usually came from face to face engagement via relevant member organisations and Future in Mind Community Navigators working in schools, therefore we have had to change the way that we provide this vital service.

The ‘Drop in and Chat’ service allows the Community Navigators and Youth workers to engage with children and young people, allowing signposting and linking to relevant pages on the WF-I-Can website for top tips and support.

We intend to build on what we have learnt during the coronavirus pandemic by continuing to offer and build on the WF-I-Can online platform; ensuring that it is always running at optimum.

The ‘Drop in and Chat’ service will ensure that we can engage with children and young people that might not necessarily present themselves in everyday circumstances, we will integrate WF-I-Can engaging activities, challenges and resources into school sessions with Community Navigators whilst they deliver the Luggage for Life Programme and continue to work closely with local VCSE groups and organisations to ensure that all information presented on the site is as relevant and useful as possible.
